I am learning to see—
to awaken my heart,
to fill my atrium and ventricles with sight;
to follow,
to find home.
I am learning to birth,
to nurture and wait,
with eager expectation.
Notes:
One of the most captivating moments in *The Magician’s Nephew* by C.S. Lewis is the uncle’s willful blindness to the magic in Narnia. His refusal to acknowledge what was right before him led him to a point where he could see nothing at all. It was as if he trained himself to see only what he wanted to see.
In many ways, we are like the uncle. Our minds can become programmed to filter reality, often limiting us to a narrow view of the world. The mind is a fascinating battlefield, where the conflict is always shifting. What worked yesterday may not work today. But we often fall into the trap of routine and conformity, failing to realize that the battle is changing.
Our thoughts are shaped by the information we allow into our minds, and this happens so subtly that we may not notice until it’s too late. In this era of overwhelming information, we are bombarded daily with content. While this can be a great advantage, it also means that our minds become cluttered. We need to regularly declutter, refresh, and cleanse our thoughts to remain focused and aware.
It’s crucial to constantly check in with ourselves, to assess where we stand so we don’t lose sight of our path. I am learning to always search for the light. Even in the thickest darkness, that light will guide me. We live in a time filled with distractions and obstacles, often pulling us off course.
But by keeping our focus on the light—the true guiding force we set out for—we can always find our way back, no matter how far we’ve strayed.
